At Rowett’s Redoubt, the two companies of the 93rd Illinois, three companies of the 7th Illinois, and elements of the 39th Iowa counterattack and retake all of the fieldworks, throwing back Cockrell’s brigade. Young’s Brigade moves up in support. The two companies of the 93rd Illinois on the spur to the north of the Star Fort fall back in the face of Sears’ advance. The outposts of the 12th Illinois and 4th Minnesota likewise retire and join their regiments in their main trenchlines. The 18th Wisconsin begins to fall back toward the Eastern Redoubt under orders from its commander.
