The brigades of Croxton and Govan meet head-on and begin slugging it out in the forest.

Walthall continues his advance north.  As he nears Brannan’s line, the 17^th and 9^th Ohio charge, halt Walthall’s tired and overextended soldiers, and then force the Rebels to retreat.  The 9^th Ohio recaptures Battery H, 5^th United States.

To the east, Dibrell crosses Reeds Bridge Road in the hopes of outflanking Van Derveer’s position.  Leaving the 9^th Ohio behind, Van Derveer races north with his remaining three regiments and battery to counter him.
