Widow Glenn Cabin
Sept 20th

Wilder’s Lighting Brigade pulls back to the Widow Glenn cabin.  Colonel Wilder briefly contemplates forming his brigade and fighting his way back to General Thomas, but is dissuaded by the arrival of the civilian Assistant Secretary of War Charles Dana.  Dana asks, though Wilder says ordered, the Union commander to escort him back to Chattanooga.  Wilder decides not to attack, but instead decides to collect as many stragglers and wagons as he can from the confused men roaming the foothills of Missionary Ridge.  He pulls the brigade and attached units back to the ridge west of the Dry Valley Road, and spends the next couple of hours doing what he can to round up lost and fleeing soldiers.  For a more detailed description of Colonel Wilder's decision not to attack, click here.
Manigault's Brigade reforms and begins marching to rejoin the division.
