After nearly an hour of fighting, Colonel Croxton’s 2,200 man brigade is unable to drive off the 1,600 cavalry of Davidson’s brigade, only which about 1,200 would be on line at one time. General Forrest brings up Dibrell’s brigade to reinforce Davidson, as well as Wilson’s Reserve Corps brigade. The combined cavalry extend beyond the flanks of Croxton’s first line, so he brings up his second line. Battery C, 1st Ohio, unable to find a favorable firing position, remains behind the brigade, and will remain there throughout the morning. Huwald’s battery, on the other hand, is in the thick of the fighting, loosing many of the battery’s horses in the struggle. |
