The Cornfield The cornfield marks the high water mark of the Union advance during the battle. The Federal soldiers had a brief opportunity to turn the flank of the Confederate army, but those units that made it to the cornfield were alone and unsupported. A quick and steady stream of Confederate reinforcements quickly closed the opportunity. ![]() |
