11:10 AM
Poe & Brotherton Fields
Sept 20th

Stewart’s Division continues to suffer at Poe Field.  The terrific flanking fire from Colonel Edward King’s brigade from the north, and a counterattack by the 82nd Indiana of Connell’s brigade force Brown’s Brigade and the 33rd Alabama to retreat back into the woods east of the field.  The 16th Alabama clings to its position in front of King’s brigade.  Clayton and Bate launch their attacks across the field.
General Longstreet discovers that Bragg is bypassing him and sending the order to attack directly to his division commanders.  He manages to send the order to advance himself.  At 11:10 Johnson, Hindman, and Hood’s divisions step off and begin their advance.  Kershaw’s Division is still deploying, and does not move forward.
While the Confederates are attacking, the Union army is still moving.  Dick’s brigade continues north toward Thomas.  Barnes and Harker’s brigades reach the Glenn-Kelly Road, form column, and begin their way northward.  Buell disengages from his front and moves back into the woods, allowing Martin’s brigade of Davis’ division to deploy to the right of Carlin.
