Bate’s brigade is almost literally blown apart by artillery fire when it enters the Poe Field and quickly retreats.

            To the west, Negley’s division arrives and begins to deploy west of the Dyer Fields.  The 11^th Michigan is sent forward to try and stall any Confederate attack, but none is made.

            Harker takes up a defensive position along the Lafayette Road and slowly retires to the south.  Johnson’s division and Brown’s brigade continue to reorganize and rest to the east.
