The 25^th Arkansas and 39^th North Carolina of McNair’s brigade march into the field past the Brock House, but are stopped and forced to retreat by the firepower of the 18^th Indiana Battery, and the two regiments of Wilder’s brigade.  Afterwards, the 98^th Illinois and 17^th Indiana quickly rush to their former positions.

Harker’s brigade is ordered to wheel north and clear the Confederate units from the Lafayette Road.

Robertson’s brigade pushes Davis’ division out of East Viniard Field and into a ditch along the edge of West Viniard Field.  Buell’s frontline regiments are routed in the confusion.  The batteries still in East Viniard Field retreat to avoid capture.  However, the 81^st Indiana of Carlin’s brigade retires in good order.

The rest of Barnes’ brigade finally retreats under pressure from Trigg.
