As Johnson’s division advances it splits.  Fulton’s brigade drifts north and takes two of Gregg’s regiments with him, the 3^rd and 41^st Tennessee.  Gregg continues east, and McNair remains behind in support.  Heg rallies his retreating brigade and falls in next to Carlin.  The two then counterattack, forcing Gregg to retreat.
