Van Cleve and Grose face off against Clayton in the forest.   The 38^th Alabama takes the worst of it, as it is subject to flanking fire from Grose.  E. King’s brigade moves to outflank Clayton, but quickly retires when skirmishers find Fulton’s brigade closing in from the south.
